Project Description
House Llandudno is a minimalist contemporary beach house with panoramic views. The off-shutter concrete forms, resilient to the Cape Atlantic climate, gracefully cantilever over the horizon, striking a balanced juxtaposition with the surroundings. In addition to the main dwelling, an annexe for extended family is connected by an underground funicular lift shaft tunnelled into the granite bedrock. Separated by a rim-flow pool, the duplicated forms create rhythm and balance. Adjacent to an indigenous fynbos green belt, the landscaping echoes Cape Town's hiking trails. Natural rock walkways winding through the property, garden pockets and green roofs create a seamless indoor-outdoor transition. The interior design embraces simplicity, with tactile materials mirroring the coastal landscape’s textures. Prioritising energy efficiency, the design integrates a photovoltaic automation system and employs passive solutions like heat-sinking concrete, strategic orientation, eaves shading, and cross-ventilation. Sustainable materials, such as bamboo and lava stone, further emphasise the eco-conscious design approach.
