Project Description
BARANSU means balance in Japanese.
The project consists of a single-family house on the coast of Almería, located on a triangular plot with a steep drop (11m). The Villa had, therefore, to house an extensive program on a complex plot. It is conceived as three bodies in balance, referring to the innate gesture of stacking rocks on a beach. Each body has a different use.
All the outside corners of the house are curved, like the rocks eroded by the sea. Also the popular Andalusian architecture rounds the corners.
The housing program is organized into three floors: The basement, with a stone appearance that extends its walls to the garden, generating landscaped terraces that adapt to the slope. It houses non-living quarters inside. The ground floor concentrates the daytime rooms, conceived open space and connected to the garden. The upper floor houses the bedrooms. This floor is displaced from the ground floor to create a large porch next to the living room and terraces on the upper floor.
A seismic resistant concrete structure is conceived, using pillars and beam walls that reflects the precise moment in which stacked rocks find their internal balance: BARANSU
