Project Description
The project purpose is to establish a new value by creation a modern architecture incorporating Japanese ethos. With a fresh sensibility by reinterpretation of traditional method, the architecture studio AtSpace Architects designs various elements related with surroundings in its limited small property.
The eaves height, similar to adjacent houses in front of the street, is figured on keeping both consonance with the original townscape and the comfortable inside volume. In contrast to monotone facade, its unique door finished by fresh wood indicates the entrance to the unexpected modern inner space.
The courtyard covered by white pebbles and the central void with a sculptural staircase provide aesthetic sunlight and shadow which changes by passage of time. One of the window glass is set with Japanese Washi Paper and the another glass holds bubbles.
Also two kinds of the windows inspired by Japanese traditional method allow to introduce the exterior view into closely. The five triangles window imitates a five story pagoda which is a historic symbol in the area. The deep framed window is inspired by Japanese garden method called “Ikedori" that trims away the surrounding outside view.
