Project Description
Aedas and Roger Stirk Harbour + Partners are joint designers for the Passenger Clearance Building. It is a broader crossing facility between Hong Kong, Zhuhai and Macao and a ‘Front Door’ gateway to the Greater Bay Area.
The iconic 300x200m building is designed to respond to the undulating mountainous backdrop. The hall inside is visually connected by 4 long voids with reflecting pools as travellers move across the 4 building functions - arrivals, immigrations, customs, departures. The colour and materials reflect natural environment and give a sense of intimacy – so travellers feel calm, comfortable and relax when passing by.
The building adopts innovative construction method. The roof module is constructed offsite in a factory in Zhongshan. Over 80% of architectural finishes such as aluminium claddings, skylights, smoke vents, baffle ceilings, drainage and lighting were pre-installed in the factory and saved 6 months construction time compared to traditional method.
The building achieves BEAM Plus “Platinum” rating. It promotes sustainability and enhances indoor environmental quality – with adequate daylight intake, reducing solar heat gain, and provide adequate air ventilation.
